You have to be familiar with the "Before" look to be impressed with these pictures.
This is the south wall of the back basement -where the washer & dryer used to be. The high humidity in the basement caused the paint to peel off the block walls and it never stayed nice-looking for long. It was the plumber's suggestion to cover it all up with a wall. R also pulled the sagging, filthy insulation down from the ceiling to improve the looks. Even unfinished, it looks better now than it ever did the entire time we own the house!
The cabinets & buckets of tools in the foreground are temporary- they will be removed yet. The metal in the back left corner are parts to finish hooking up the cold air return to the furnace.

This is what you see now when you round the corner at the bottom of the stairs. This spot used to sport cluttered shelves and an old cabinet that had seen better days, and usually J's hunting stuff spread about on the floor.
Now the lower cabinet houses all the hunting paraphernalia and the upper cabinets house a portion of what had been on the shelves. (We pitched an astonishing amount of stuff -like a bottle of wallpaper stripper with only a small amount left, since we no longer have any wallpaper).
This accounts for a hard days' work on Saturday. We are thrilled to have this area conquered. Granted, it would never do for the White House, but we're happy with it and feel smug with our thriftiness. An hour spent organizing winter coats, boots & mittens in the stairwell yet and the back basement can be counted as spring cleaned. Hooray! (Don't peek in the storage room though.) :)

Congratulations on conquering another area. It's all progress.
