UFOs & Suspect Celebrations

Yesterday was definitely not one of my prouder moments.
I finally took time to defrost the freezer. I suspected I would find UFOs (unidentified frozen objects), and I did. I also found one lonely pack of corn and several of green beans, despite previous dives into the freezer turning up none, leading us to believe we were out of garden veggies. Turns out we have accumulated 2 big bags of chicken nuggets, about 8 packs of hot dogs and 10 containers of Cool Whip through sheer disorganization.
After I had the freezer defrosted, I faced the great Mennonite dilemma. To throw it out or put it back in? Containers of meat dating back to '06 & '07 didn't bother my conscience to pitch, especially since it will do very nicely for cat food. But the expensive wheat-free ingredients from J's special diet stint a couple of years ago? And the slightly freezer burnt buns? Such a disgraceful waste of money - a laundry basket full of discards.
Then again, perhaps I should be proud of myself that I faced reality and threw things out instead of telling myself I'll use it up soon and returning it to the freezer to become even more unappealing by next year.

R & J left on a longer run -to WI- this afternoon. I had a very confused daughter when I announced we are going to have a little party while daddy is gone. Why would we celebrate daddy's going away?! Sounds suspect, I agree. I explained that we are doing something a little special to make ourselves feel better that we have to stay home alone, not that he's gone.

This spring I threw out (without shedding a tear) four boxes of liver that were marked 1999. Blush!!
