Our kitchen situation is a shift but do-able, but this?? This is what I call "roughing it".
It all started with a blonde moment- I knew they were intending to start on the bathroom Tuesday, but for some reason it never occurred to me to empty it of our belongings Monday evening. I realized my mistake Tuesday morning, but somehow I still envisioned getting it done. I was cheerfully dining on breakfast when the phone rang- an inquiry where I am and if I've forgotten about a scheduled shopping trip with friends. I had not forgotten but foolishly assumed it was cancelled on account of not hearing any details such as when & where to meet. I barely hung up the phone when I am asked if it's OK to start tearing apart the bathroom. Suddenly I am scrambling to make arrangements to be gone all day AND pack. I was only 30 minutes late for the shopping trip, but that was because the men offered to pack up our bathroom stuff and I left the majority of it for them. Embarrassing.
Till I got home last evening, the bathroom was completely gutted -to the studs. The floor is spongy around the toilet and needing replaced. Richard cut that away last evening. The problem now is that the basement bathroom -our only use-able facilities- are directly below the upstairs bathroom. With part of the floor removed, there is an unhindered view of the toilet below. Fortunately for me, I had Bible Study this morning -which provided access to private facilities. I suppose we'll all use the school's facilities at 3pm and that will get us through till the workmen leave. Tomorrow will be another story. After all, it's not like we want to march up to the men and ask them to lay a board over the hole every time we need to use the bathroom below!
In addition to this inconvenience, without a ceiling in the upstairs bathroom, it is open clear to the attic. So while showering or sitting on the toilet, we get to experience cool breezes blowing down from the attic. It's as drafty as an outhouse. No one is hogging the bathroom this week!
We got some good news yesterday. My father-in-law does not need surgery for prostate cancer at this time. His PSA level came down so far that the doctor says surgery is not necessary. PTL!
