Demolition Begins

The patio on the back of the house is disappearing! When the boys started tearing off the siding I rushed out and took pictures because I realized we don't have any pictures of the house from the back- we have so long considered the patio an eye-sore that we just never take pictures showing it.

Last week we started packing a few things, and had an appointment with the cabinet-maker from next door. When he saw our floor plan, he picked out some more woodwork and furniture we have planned and offered to give us an estimate on that, too. With where our estimate is at though, we probably can't swap out many stock items for custom made. I am re-considering the bay window in the kitchen since that is one of our high-dollar items. I saw a picture of a large window with glass shelves for houseplants. I decided I could live with that instead, so I want to check how much that would save.

It is a probably good thing we are not starting July 1 as originally planned -simply because the excavator would have pure mud to work with. We get one heavy downpour after another these days.

Last evening we biked several miles to the home of a couple from church -to get a tour of their new house. I especially wanted to see their Master Bedroom since it is painted purple, accented with sage. (See the last paragraph of "Marathon Trip to Lowes" post.) Richard gave that plan his stamp of approval now. Josh put in his order for a bedroom like Tim's -dull green paint, old barn siding, and hunting trophies.

I am still very undecided on paint colors. Some times I think I should go neutral on the walls and add color with curtains and bedding and such. Other times I think I'll be trendy and put the color on the walls. What would you do? Would you put a deep garnet red on the office walls? (That room will gets lots of light from the 3 windows & French doors and have white cabinets.)

oh yes, go with color! =) Although you may have to paint it again sooner than if you go with neutral. I love the warm look of colors throughout the house, if they co-ordinate and don't fight with each other. =)
Jason saw you biking through Antrim and wondered how far you had gone...now we know.
Doesn't it feel like we are living in a tropical country with all these storms?!

It costs $30 and a day's time to paint a room. You can always change it later if you don't like it.

True, you can always repaint if you don't like it. But some of that depends on how much you like to paint. I have many other things I would rather do than change the color of walls. (Why do you suppose I have had the same kitchen wallpaper for over 25 years?!)I would rather stick with neutrals for the walls and add color with curtains and other accents. They are easier to change. But you live in your house and I live in mine, so that's just my opinion and you can do as you please.
